AMBRELA was officially opened on 12 th February 2005 by the former Minister for Health Hon. Anna Abdallah. The laboratory is situated adjacent to Bombo Regional Hospital , Tanga City in the North East of Tanzania. Its strategic location offers a unique opportunity for investigators to utilise state of the art research facilities at the newest NIMR Laboratory.
AMBRELA consists of Clinical Pharmacology Laboratory with High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC) machine and ELISA reader for immunology, general laboratory which accommodates Microbiology and Parasitology sections, Clinical Chemistry and Haematology sections, Molecular biology Unit and CAT 3 laboratory for specialised work including cell culture and other systems which should be in sterile conditions. Other sections include data room, Internet facility, wash rooms, freezer rooms and a meeting room.
AMBRELA aims to become a regional centre of excellence for laboratory studies; field and hospital based clinical trials. For the past two years it has been working with its partners toward attaining Good Clinical and Laboratory Practices (GCLP) and will eventually be accredited.
